just recently came back from a trip to finally give this tent a shake down. Weather conditions were extremely windy nights and seeing temperatures of 24°F. Pairing this with a diesel heater, we were so so comfortable. The blackout curtains are no joke, definitely pitch black once everything was zipped up. The tent had zero condensation in the morning which was amazing. The mattress that’s in the tent gave me some of the best sleep I’ve had while camping. Set up & breakdown is so simple while allowing me to keep the ladder, 2 sleeping bags, 2 pillows and 2 blankets inside. Can’t recommend this tent enough
Great tent, very well build, a lot of space inside. My complaints so far are
1-they do not include the power cable for the tent, I had to reach out for them to tell me what to buy, is a $20 cable just include it or tell people before hand what to buy
2-the mattress is very very think and you wont be able to close the tent if you put a foam mattress on top
3- the tent should have zippers that glow in the dark
Other than that i love the features and materials.
I just spent the last 4 weeks in various area's in the Rocky Mountains. From Montana, high elevations of Colorado and Southern Utah. I was at 3000-9500 ft at night during this trip. During this trip, I was in all kinds of weather, rain, cold temps, warm temps and windy nights. This tent holds up.
I experienced several cold nights that got down to the mid 20's F. I did not have a heater, but stayed warm with my winter sleeping bag. The frost/condensation remained outside and never came into the tent which was huge for me. On the rainy nights, it never leaked and it poured and hailed on me. On the windy nights (gusting at approx 10-15) it held up. In the warmer temps, I opened up the doors and kept the screen doors closed. It ventilated alright but it can get warm. I recommend a small fan with temps 80+
Now for the tent itself. Easy to set up. I got it down to less than a minute. Take down is a lil more intricate. Bringing the roof down and squeezing the air out is the main thing. But once you get a system, I was down and secured in less than a minute. The mattress was comfy. Interior lights were awesome. Plenty of pockets too.
The sleeping space I had was great! Im a big guy. 6'1", wide shoulders, 270lbs. And a second person in there is possible. Especially since im a side sleeper.
Overall, love the tent and can't wait to see what else Top Oak has to offer so I can test it out.
I recently bought the TopOak Vision XL rooftop tent along with the insulation kit, and I couldn’t be happier — not just with the product itself, but with the customer service.
When my tent arrived, there was a small cosmetic scratch on the shell. I reached out, and they immediately offered a $45 refund so I could buy the right paint to touch it up. That alone was more than fair.
Later, I noticed the insulation kit I ordered had the heater port on the opposite side of what I needed. TopOak didn’t just fix the issue — they went above and beyond. They arranged to send me a brand-new kit with the correct port, gave me a full refund, and told me I could keep or dispose of the first kit as I wished.
I have honestly never experienced this level of customer service. They were quick, professional, and incredibly generous with their solutions. It makes me even more confident in my purchase, and I’ll definitely be recommending TopOak to friends and buying more of their gear in the future.
Thank you, TopOak, for standing behind your products and treating customers the way you do.
I've been RTT'n for 13 years now and finally retired my ancient soft shell style for this new hard shell wedge style. I was very impressed with the shipping crate (wooden crate, not a cardboard box!) that it came in, well padded inside, and even had a prybar attached to the outside to open the box. There are a lot of small details that I liked; such as the reinforcing bracket over the awning holes, the extra interior pockets with a hi-vis marking on them, the included ratcheting for bracket assembly. All the stitching appears to be high quality and is well taped inside. The skylight is a nice touch. My wife found the mattress to be too firm, and I swapped my Exped Megamat in for it. My only complaint is the opening covers; they all "hinge" from the bottom which I find rather annoying. They drape over the ladder when you're trying to get out and are kind of a nuisance as you can be climbing over wet material if its raining for example.. The bottom hinge style does make sense for a window opening, but I find it to be a hindrance when it's an entrance, which all 3 openings can be. Other than that, this is a fantastic, well built roof top tent.
You don’t need to spend crazy amount of money on those fancy roof top tent. What you get for the price is amazing. Just used it for the first time on a 5 day camping trip in the Grand Tetons and it was great. Setup is quick and features that come with are fantastic. What really is best thing with this company is their customer service team. They listen to you and figure out solutions for you!
We have been contemplating purchasing a RTT for years. The time finally came and we wanted lots of room, a hard case, and easy set up. The Topoak Vision XL checked all the boxes.
Support has been exceptional. Questions receive fast and clear responses. Quality is everything we could hope for.
This tent is a palace. We get lost in all the space.
The only thing we had to change is the mattress. The stock mattress was not comfortable. We have an air bed arriving today and will see how that works.
I bought this rooftop tent after a ton of research. I am a YouTuber who is connected with several YouTube channels on the outdoors scene. I was watching a few videos from Last line of defense’s channel and saw the iKamper sky camp rooftop tent and fell in love with the ease of use, and simplicity of a fold-out roof tent. I was gonna buy a Sky-camp, but did my due diligence and did more research on types, sizes, prices, and reviews. This Topoak Vision had some of the highest user reviews and a ton of information about it, and it wasn’t $4,500 like the iKamper skycamp, it was just under $2,000 which to me meant night and day! Now I could buy my tent, accessories, and a ton of camping stuff to go along with it. In my mind for the “Practical” person who’s on a typical budget, buying this tent is a No-brainer! It offers a ton of options including:
Roof rack system
Full power inside
L.E.D. Lighting system
Comfortable mattress
Storage pockets
Anderson power plug
Coated Aluminum shell
Used it for the first time last weekend, and it performed amazingly! Was warm, fairly thick material, was dark material so it kept the early morning sun out. Lights work great with quite a few settings including a timer. It’s folds out very easily with very quick setup time compared to old school tent systems. I absolutely love this thing. Topoak please keep up the good work, and keep innovating, don’t go cheap…
Great tent!!!
